My Finances: Paying Taxes & Credit
>> 19.10.11
Hello, I´m back with an update on my finances and the current path of my journey.
First of all, and skipping any mourning, I have to remind myself that I have been living comfortably without a job since last December. This means that, in a practical point of view, I have been "tasting" what it feels like to live as a Financial Independent person but only for a limited time period. Despite all concerns about the future, I must confess it has been great!
And wasn´t that one of my dreams?
Yes, and still is but I have a long way to go before I can even start thinking of it as a permanent situation.
So far, I have managed to pay all our living expenses without having to use any of my credit cards. Last month, my daughter´s "back to school" expenses and home owner´s taxes dictated the end of that comfort zone. Now, I´m more near to drown without cash-float than to float gracefully and if the going gets any tougher I will seriously consider going car free. Another solution is earning more money, something I will also try to do.
This flat´s transmission taxes arrived at my mail box last August, along with my father´s inheritance taxes and a surprise bill from my T2 flat I now have nearly 2K Euros to pay. Once I´m not working, I can not ask a bank loan so I will review my credit card ratings and use one of them to pay these extra taxes. The last time I checked, the blue citi credit cards was the cheapest I have. So, for the near future, my major goal will be paying these extra taxes and keep living without losing sight of my overall plan.
I´m still trying to put in practice the first part of the plan I had set out for 2011 (now extended to 2012), which is Decluttering & Downsizing.
Early this year, I had set some mini-goals and published a "to do list" but somewhere along the way mini-goals stopped making much sense and I skipped following the list too. I want to review the list later or early next year because it´s still valid and I only covered the first few items.
So far, I haven´t been lucky with this flat´s sale so waiting and packing while enjoying some free time has been my only/best choice. Add a bit of procrastination, daily home tasks, my daughter, some blogging, a lot of cooking ( accompanied by some weight gain too.. shhh), a new romantic interest, some weekend trips, beach, reading, three music concerts in Lisbon and an almost daily pinch of fb and you will have completed my 2011 agenda´s puzzle :)
See you soon xx
